Grassroots veterans group praises Senate vote, hails next VA Secretary

ARLINGTON, Va.—Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) on Monday commended the Senate confirmation of Robert Wilkie to be the next Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA). Wilkie was confirmed with broad bipartisan support.

Dan Caldwell, CVA Executive Director, had this to say:

“Modernizing and reforming the VA is a tough task that will take time, patience, and energy. Through his service to this country both in and out of uniform, Robert Wilkie has shown himself to be a knowledgeable and steady leader capable of the task ahead. He has a firsthand understanding of the challenges our service members go through when they hang up their uniforms and transition to civilian life. With major changes coming to the VA, the Senate has put the right man in place to shepherd the agency through a time of transition and to ensure a strong VA for today’s veterans and tomorrow’s.”

BACKGROUND

In a recent interview on Fox and Friends, Caldwell discussed the prospects of Wilkie as the next VA Secretary.

Concerned Veterans for America has advocated for a nominee who will bring a steady hand to the helm of the VA, implementing the VA MISSION Act, preserving veterans’ health care choice, and quelling the turmoil that has plagued the VA and the programs on which millions of veterans rely.
