VA Employees Stealing Drugs Underscores Urgent Need for Accountability

Arlington, VA – A recently released GAO report exposes employee drug theft problems continuing to worsen at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The VA’s own data indicates there has been a sharp increase in opioid theft, missing prescriptions or unauthorized drug use by employees since 2009. In addition, recent audits expose that four VA hospitals have skipped monthly drug stock inspections and have missed other routine requirements.

Raleigh, NC – Yesterday the North Carolina State Senate Judiciary Committee passed a bill which would ease occupational licensing burdens on military families in the state. Today the bill is headed to the state’s Finance Committee for further review.

CVA Launches Effort to Stop Anti-Free Speech Bill in SC

Columbia, SC — Today Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) launched a new effort to stop a South Carolina anti-free speech bill, S. 255, introduced by state Senator Hugh Leatherman (R-SC). If passed, S. 255 would allow the government to access private information about South Carolina citizens in an effort to find out what causes they personally support. This opens private citizens and groups up to the threat of discrimination and retaliation by the government.
