CVA Responds to US Military Action Against Iran
ARLINGTON, Va. ― Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) is closely monitoring reports of U.S. military strikes against targets in Iran. While details remain limited and the full scope of the operation is still emerging, any direct military engagement with Iran carries significant risks for American service members and for U.S. interests across the Middle East and here at home.
After decades of costly conflict in the region, the American people have made clear that U.S. policy should prioritize our core national interests and avoid sliding into another prolonged war. Any military action in any region must be guided by a clearly defined objective, a realistic political end-state, and a strategy that avoids open-ended escalation.
CVA’s Executive Director John Vick had this to say:
“Iran’s regime is brutal and destabilizing, and the Iranian people deserve the opportunity to chart their own future. But the United States must be clear-eyed about the risks of escalation. Tehran is likely to view this action as an existential threat, and its capacity to retaliate through ballistic missiles, proxy militias, cyber operations, and attacks on U.S. forces could put American lives and interests at greater risk, even here in the American homeland. America has sacrificed enormously in the Middle East over the past two decades. If force is used, it must be tied to a strategy that protects American service members, advances our core national interests, and avoids another open-ended conflict. Furthermore, the Founding Fathers left the role of going to war in the hands of Congress, to ensure the American people had a voice in matters of foreign policy: It is essential the elected leaders in Washington debate and vote on these actions in line with the Constitution.”
CVA prays for the safety and security of American forces deployed in the Middle East. As this conflict unfolds, we encourage policymakers to put America’s core interests in the Middle East first and foremost and avoid escalation that risks trapping American warfighters in a new endless war.
CVA urges President Trump to:
- Clearly articulate the mission objective and political end state our government seeks.
- Ensure Congress and the American people are fully informed about the scope and risks of the operation.
- Prioritize force protection for U.S. troops and regional personnel.
- Avoid actions that could draw the United States into a protracted regional conflict without a defined strategy for success.
Concerned Veterans for America will continue to monitor developments and advocate for policies that put America’s security and the well-being of our service members first.
