Veteran Opposes Subsidies Extension

Dear Editor,

As a veteran, I know what it feels like when the government promises health care, then makes you wait, fight paperwork, or accept care that isn’t timely or responsive. That’s why I’m concerned about Congress once again voting to expand expired Affordable Care Act [ACA] subsidies without fixing what’s actually broken in our health care system. Last week, the U.S. House voted in favor of reinstating COVID-era ACA subsidies, at a cost of roughly $30 billion a year to taxpayers.

For veterans and our families, this debate feels familiar. We’ve lived through systems where more money didn’t mean better care ― just more bureaucracy, fewer choices, and less accountability. Throwing more taxpayer dollars at big insurance companies won’t lower premiums or out-of-pocket costs for working families throughout Ohio. It only reinforces a system that has already failed to control prices.

Health care costs too much, families are struggling, seniors are worried, and veterans know firsthand that government-run solutions often fall short. Real reform means giving people more options and control over their health care dollars, not writing another blank check.

I urge my fellow Ohioans to contact our senators and tell them to vote ‘NO’ on extending ACA subsidies.

Tell Congress: Fix rising health care costs, don’t cover them up.
