CVA on NDAA: Congress Has an Opportunity to Finally Repeal Outdated War Powers

ARLINGTON, Va. ―Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) Executive Director John Vick on Thursday issued the following statement ahead of the Senate vote on Amendment 3337 to S. 2296, the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which would repeal the 1991 and 2002 Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMFs) authorizing force against Iraq:

“Lawmakers have a clear opportunity to restore accountability and end outdated war powers. The 1991 and 2002 Iraq authorizations no longer reflect today’s threats and have been used far beyond their original intent. Repealing these AUMFs would strengthen our national security by realigning the authority to wage war in Iraq with the reality on the ground. After more than two decades of war, it’s time to turn the page and reaffirm that America’s military should only be sent into combat with clear purpose, authorization, and accountability.

CVA urges members of Congress to support Amendment 3337 and finally repeal these outdated war powers.”
