CVA Statement on VA Reorganization Plan

ARLINGTON, Va.Concerned Veterans for America released a statement following news the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Doug Collins announced that VA will not pursue a large-scale reduction-in-force (RIF) for VA staff. The VA stated it’s on track to reduce total staff by nearly 30,000 employees by the end of fiscal year 2025, eliminating the need for a large-scale reduction-in-force.

John Vick, CVA’s executive director had this to say:

Since January, CVA has called for the Trump administration and VA Secretary Doug Collins to drive meaningful reform at the Department of Veterans Affairs including a clear commitment that resources and spending are aligned with the organization’s core mission of serving our veterans.

The cost of VA has massively increased even as America’s population of veterans declines. This is not a sustainable trend for keeping our promise to veterans and doing right by American taxpayers. Right-sizing the VA workforce to reflect our changing veteran population is the responsible way to ensure that our limited resources are used most effectively to meet the health care needs of those who have served our country. Our nation’s heroes deserve quality care, and that means VA dollars should be spent, first and foremost, on veterans.

We look forward to continuing to work with this administration and leaders in Congress to effect real change for the veterans VA serves.”
