CVA on House Vote to Extend ACA Subsidies: ‘Ignores the Real Issue at Taxpayers’ Expense’
ARLINGTON, Va. ―Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) today responded to this week’s House vote on whether to reinstate the enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits, calling the effort to continue the subsidies without addressing underlying cost drivers an expensive Band-Aid that fails American taxpayers.
“Extending these ACA subsidies again ― as the House is voting on this week ― doesn’t solve the real problems Americans face in our health care system,” said CVA Executive Director John Vick. “Instead, it papers them over with more taxpayer dollars, fewer choices, and continued escalation of costs.”
A pandemic response measure enacted in 2021, the extra subsidies expired on January 1. Underlying ACA premium subsidies remain in effect, helping reduce out-of-pocket costs for an estimated 20 million lower-income Americans. The U.S. House is expected to vote on a bill this week to reinstate the expired subsidies, at an estimated cost to taxpayers of $30 billion per year.
“Veterans and their families know what it looks like when Washington promises health care but delivers bureaucracy, delays, and little to no accountability. We’ve lived the consequences of government-run care, and we’ve seen how it fails taxpayers, veterans, and communities alike,” Vick added.
“For America to move forward, we urge Representatives to vote NO on this or any bill that would extend ACA premium tax credits without meaningful reforms that put patients first, expand options, and make care genuinely affordable for every family.”
