CVA Backs Move to Withdraw 5,000 Troops from Germany

ARLINGTON, Va.  Last week, the Trump administration signaled plans to reduce U.S. forces in Europe, a strategic shift which CVA has long supported. That plan is now underway, with 5,000 service members set to leave Germany.

CVA Executive Director John Vick issued the following statement:

“For too long, our European allies have relied upon the United States to defend their soil – stretching our troops, equipment, and resources to a degree which is disproportionate to America’s vital interests. This redeployment is a good first step to finally shifting the burden for Europe’s defense back to where it belongs. But this must be a true step forward. These troops should come home, not rotate to another post in Europe. While NATO remains a valuable alliance, our allies have long been capable of defending themselves, and it’s time that they do.”

Last month, the U.S. fully withdrew its forces from Syria, marking the first time in over a decade with no American troops on the ground. This latest move builds on that progress, shifting more responsibility to our allies and refocusing U.S. resources on core national security priorities.
