CVA to Congress: Raising taxes is a threat to the American Dream
ARLINGTON, Va.—Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) on Friday responded to reports of Congressional Republicans working to include in legislation a massive tax increase that would work against the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act rate cuts.
CVA Executive Director, John Vick, had this to say about the proposal:
“We, as American veterans and military families, fought and sacrificed for the defense of prosperity for all Americans. We find it incomprehensible that House Republicans, long considered the party of responsible and limited taxes, could possibly vote for tax increases at a time when Americans citizens are already struggling with high prices and high mortgage rates. Last November, American voters sent a very clear message to Washington, DC: End reckless spending and extend the 2017 Trump tax cuts in their entirety.”
Millions of businesses would be affected by the proposed hike. A recent report from the Washington Center for Equitable Growth estimates that pass-through businesses employed 43% of the U.S. workforce, and some economists argue that higher taxes on these firms would lead to less hiring and lower wages.
Vick continued:
“As the 119th Congress began, Americans expected their representatives would heed that message and work to expand American freedom and opportunity. Continuing the fever dream known as the ‘Green New Deal’ is an attack on the American Dream and the majority who voted against raising taxes. Republicans in this Congress should remember they were elected to block unnecessary taxes and wasteful spending. If they forget that, they should be ready to hear ‘It’s the economy, Stupid.’ while they read the polls in 2026.”
