CVA Urges Senate to Include McCain-Reed Amendment in NDAA

Arlington, VA ― Today, Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) filed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which would establish a commission to head up a new round of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) in 2019.

A new round of BRAC is estimated to save potentially $2 billion dollars. Officials estimate that the Pentagon is currently operating at over 20 percent excess capacity.

Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) Policy Director Dan Caldwell issued the following statement: 

“BRAC is a common-sense measure that will save billions in taxpayer dollars while strengthening our military. A new round will allow the Pentagon to redirect resources going toward empty or under-utilized military bases toward more urgent national security priorities. We urge the Senate to include the McCain-Reed amendment in the final passage of the NDAA this year.”

CVA is currently urging activists to contact their Senators in support of the amendment.
