I have asked for Community Care and being told “sorry go to the local VA. We wont authorize that.” I am 100 percent, and I have too many health issues that make traveling to the VA both psychically and emotionalizing taxing!
My father was a WWII veteran and received excellent care anytime he visited or needed help from the Veterans clinic
I have never, whether it be in the private sector or the veterans hospital, had better treatment than I do at the West Palm VA
I’m very proud of the VA care that I receive. Every person working at the VA centers which handles my health problems could not be more professional and always ready to help.
Gainesville Fla. is a good hospital. I live 2 hrs. away but go there when I feel that I should if it’s service related. Having balance problems now that they are helping me with.
I must say that the VA has been good to me most of the time…I feel that now it is starting to go the wrong way. Things are changing, it’s harder to get appointments now, and when you do get one it may be a long time before you can be seen, or you may get referred outside and that still takes sometime. I am just glad I haven’t had a serious emergency.
Spoke with a gentlemen who said their first available appointment was August 12th at 1 pm which I accepted. I requested an earlier appointment or to be notified of any cancellation and he stated that they are overwhelmed and no cancellations are happening but to call him back at 3 pm everyday to see if there is a cancellation.
At no time did the gentlemen say that I am eligible for community care due to the wait time for podiatry. I called the Miami VA and spoke to a patient advocate who stated that the VA will set up appointments in the future to circumvent community care. In other words, they purposefully do not tell you about community care and then schedule you and say you accepted a later date. However, they are violating the law by not offering you community care from the beginning.
