“One small step to lead America forward.”

Every chapter of American progress has started the same way: with someone willing to take one small step. A step toward freedom. Toward justice. Toward a better future.

At Concerned Veterans for America, we know that kind of courage firsthand. Veterans and military families understand the weight of service and the cost of freedom, not in theory, but in experience. That’s why we believe the next great chapter in America’s story will also begin with those who’ve worn the uniform, supported someone who has, or who still believe deeply in the promise of this country.

One Small Step is CVA’s veteran-led call to action in a moment that demands leadership. It’s a campaign to inspire and equip everyday Americans, especially those rooted in service, to take meaningful civic action: to speak up, show up, and lead where they are. Whether it’s writing to your elected officials, attending a local event, or stepping into a volunteer role, each action becomes part of a larger movement to preserve and expand the freedoms we fought for.

This campaign is about turning shared values into real-world impact. Because the path to a stronger America won’t be paved by politicians alone. It will be led by citizens who still believe that liberty is worth the effort.

One small step, taken by many, becomes a giant leap toward a freer future. And veterans will lead the way.

Veterans Leading the Way

America moves forward when veterans lead; guided by the experiences of their service, dedication to country, and the founding principles that made this nation great.

Veterans and military families know the cost of freedom, and they are ready to lead again. One Small Step is CVA’s veteran-led call to action aiming to mobilize those rooted in service, and all who believe in America’s promise, to take civic action that strengthens the freedoms we fought for.

January: When in the Course of Human Events

This January, as we begin America’s 250th year, we reflect on the bold idea that started it all: the belief that every person has the right to shape their own destiny.

Our founding document ― The Declaration of Independence ― marks the start of the American experiment in liberty, when individuals boldly declared their right to self-governance and freedom. From farmers to founders, inventors to dreamers, Americans have always turned that belief into action.

In 1778 a congressional resolve required “all officers of the army shall take and subscribe the foregoing oath or affirmation before the commander in chief, or any major general or brigadier general.”
