CVA STATEMENT ON JOHN BOLTON’S DEPARTURE FROM THE WHITE HOUSE

Veterans group encourages appointment of advisors who will support a more restrained foreign policy

ARLINGTON, Va.—Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) Executive Director Nate Anderson released the following statement on Tuesday following news of national security advisor John Bolton’s departure from the White House:

“President Trump was clear when he said that great nations don’t fight endless wars. In pursuit of a foreign policy that best ensures the safety of the American people and our national interests, it is critical that the President be served by advisors who support the President’s vision.

We look forward to the appointment of a new advisor who will be positioned to work with President Trump to help expedite a full withdrawal from Afghanistan and realize a more restrained approach to U.S. foreign policy.”

BACKGROUND

Concerned Veterans for America conducted a poll in April of 2019 that showed that 60 percent of veterans and military families would support President Trump if he chose to end American involvement in the war in Afghanistan.

The Pew Research Center released a poll in July 2019 that showed that a majority of veterans believe the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq weren’t worth fighting.
