CVA responds to State of the Union

Grassroots veterans group praises foreign policy, choice for veterans

ARLINGTON, Va.—Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) Executive Director Dan Caldwell on Tuesday released the following statement in response to President Trump’s State of the Union Address:

“The greatest respect we can pay to our veterans is to ensure their sacrifices were made for the preservation of the security and liberty of the American people. Therefore, we applaud the President’s commitment to winding down American military entanglement in Syria’s civil war and Afghanistan. In both countries, we have accomplished our core objectives, and it is in America’s security interest to bring our troops home.”

Recent polling shows the American people support the decisions to withdraw troops from Syria and Afghanistan.

Caldwell continued:

“The Trump Administration has made tremendous progress reforming the VA over the last two years and we look forward to continuing to work with them to advance policies that ensure that our veterans have access to the quality health care and benefits that they have earned.”

Following President Trump’s December announcement of plans to withdraw troops from Syria, CVA released this statement in support of the move, stating, “keeping our troops in Syria will not guarantee a better outcome in the civil war, and a continued U.S. presence in the country will only distract from more pressing national security priorities.”

Caldwell recently penned an op-ed with Will Ruger, Vice President of Research at the Charles Koch Institute, charting a path forward for better foreign policy. You can read it here.
