CVA on Senate vote regarding withdrawals from Syria, Afghanistan

By Concerned Veterans for America

ARLINGTON, Va.–Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) Executive Director Dan Caldwell today issued the following statement after the Senate voted on an amendment in response to President Trump’s plans to withdraw American troops from Syria:

“President Trump’s decision to withdraw from Syria and his reconsideration of our military presence in Afghanistan are the right strategic choices. Recent polling shows they are also supported by the American people. Congress should get behind the President’s efforts to end our 17-year-long war in Afghanistan and our open-ended engagement in Syria. We look forward to working with Congress and the administration on this important issue.”

Following President Trump’s December announcement of plans to withdraw troops from Syria, CVA released this statement in support of the move, stating, “keeping our troops in Syria will not guarantee a better outcome in the civil war, and a continued U.S. presence in the country will only distract from more pressing national security priorities.”

Caldwell recently penned an op-ed with Will Ruger, Vice President of Research at the Charles Koch Institute, charting a path forward for better foreign policy. You can read it here.
