CVA Efforts to Pressure Manchin, Heitkamp on Gorsuch Pay Off

By Concerned Veterans for America

Arlington, VA – Today Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) announced that they will vote to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, both citing their responsibility as elected officials and noting that Gorsuch is qualified, objective, and has received praise from both sides of the aisle.

Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) has been engaged in a major effort to pressure both Manchin and Heitkamp to support Gorsuch. The group has made thousands of calls to constituents of West Virginia and North Dakota, asking them to contact Manchin and Heitkamp and urge them to confirm Gorsuch without delay. CVA has also launched targeted web ads and two waves of direct mail in both states, in addition to promoting a digital tool that allows constituents to contact their Senators directly online.

CVA Executive Director Mark Lucas issued the following statement:

“We applaud Senators Manchin and Heitkamp for ignoring Chuck Schumer, sticking to their principles, and doing right by their constituents. Judge Gorsuch is a model jurist for the Supreme Court bench – qualified, committed, and fair – and there is no reasonable excuse to obstruct this process. CVA activists worked tirelessly to pressure Senators Manchin and Heitkamp to support Gorsuch, and we will continue pushing other members of the Senate follow their lead until the moment Gorsuch is confirmed to the bench.”

Neil Gorsuch, a graduate of Harvard law who was confirmed to the Tenth Circuit Court with unanimous and bipartisan support, enjoys the support of most Americans, including registered voters and Independents, per recent polling. The American Bar Association gave Judge Neil Gorsuch its highest rating, unanimously declaring him “well-qualified.”

CVA is engaged in a unique and unprecedented grassroots effort to help confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court bench. The group has made over 315,000 calls to constituents across twelve targeted states asking them to contact their Senator and urge them to confirm Gorsuch without delay. The group has also launched web ads, three waves of direct mail, and is promoting a digital tool which allows constituents to contact their Senators directly via Facebook, Twitter, and email.

Most recently, CVA led a coalition of 56 major conservative groups – including Heritage Action, Judicial Crisis Network, and Americans for Tax Reform –  and sent a letter to the Senate in Gorsuch’s support.
