A U.S. and NATO-imposed no-fly zone over Ukraine all but guarantees wider war with Russia
ARLINGTON, Va.–In response to increasing calls for an American and NATO-imposed no-fly zone over Ukraine, Concerned Veterans for America issued the following statement:
“Regardless of its scope, a NATO-imposed no-fly zone over Ukraine would inevitably lead to armed conflict between the U.S. and a nuclear-armed Russia. Enforcing a no-fly zone would mean shooting down Russian aircraft and bombing Russian air defense sites in Ukraine and mainland Russia. It could also necessitate the introduction of ground troops to conduct combat search and rescue if American aircraft are shot down. All these actions are inherently escalatory and risk intensifying the suffering Ukrainians are experiencing while putting Americans into a war that does not serve our national interests.
“Those who try to minimize the dangers of a no-fly zone are cynically misleading the American people on the risks of this course of action, which includes the potential of a nuclear exchange between the United States and Russia. Our policymakers would be wise to avoid taking the advice of these individuals, many of whose advice has previously produced disastrous results in places like Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria.”
