Did Dept. of Veterans Affairs Shred “Secret” Waiting List of Veterans at Phoenix VA Hospital?

VA Administrator Admits VA Destroyed “Interim List” That May Be “Secret” Waiting List

Arlington, Va. – The Department of Veterans Affairs may have shredded a “secret” waiting list at the Phoenix VA hospital, where 40 veterans’ deaths have been linked to long wait times, according to Rep. Jeff Miller, chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Rep. Miller today wrote a letter to Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki in which he noted that a VA administrator admitted in a meeting to shredding an “interim list” that may have also been the “secret” waiting list of veterans waiting for care at the Phoenix VA hospital. Click here to read the letter. The Washington Examiner also reported today that the VA canceled more than 1.5 million medical orders without knowing if patients received the proper care they needed. Pete Hegseth, CEO of Concerned Veterans for America, issued the following statement:

“These latest revelations—in Phoenix and across the country—are more evidence of a dysfunctional VA bureaucracy obsessed with deflecting blame and preserving the status quo rather than finding the truth and demanding accountability. Instead of taking care of the veterans it’s supposed to be serving, VA is only looking out for itself. Our veterans are dying in a failing healthcare system—and VA managers are covering it up! If this isn’t a wakeup call to President Obama and Congress of the need for reform and accountability at VA, I don’t know what is.”
