CVA Urges Trump Administration to Get American Troops out of Syria
ARLINGTON, Va. ― Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) urges the administration to move forward with a complete withdrawal of U.S. forces from Syria, following reports that officials are weighing an end to the long-running deployment. After years of mission creep and lingering risks to American service members, it is long past time to re-evaluate America’s role in a conflict that does not implicate core U.S. national interests. John Vick, Executive Director of Concerned Veterans for America, had this to say:
“Operation Inherent Resolve, along with other activity in Syria, is not central to America’s national defense, and keeping troops in harm’s way without a clear strategy or constitutional authorization is unacceptable. Our men and women in uniform deserve missions that are clearly defined, legally authorized, and directly connected to the safety of the American people. A full withdrawal from Syria is the responsible course of action.”
CVA encourages President Trump to finish the job on his long-standing goal of withdrawing U.S. forces from Syria. After the repeal of the 1991 and 2002 Authorizations for Use of Military Force, and the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq, this action would continue this administrations legacy of ending our nation’s endless wars in the Middle East. Bringing this mission to a close, ensuring that future military engagements are debated, authorized, and accountable to the American people are prudent principles that put America first.
Ending this deployment would be an important step toward ending America’s endless wars, protecting the lives of U.S. service members, and aligning U.S. foreign policy with realism, restraint, and constitutional principle.
