ARLINGTON, Va.—In response to reports that the Trump Administration is drastically slowing the withdrawal of American troops from Syria and possibly leaving them in the country with an open-ended mission, Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) is urging President Trump to follow through with the complete withdrawal of American troops from Syria that he ordered in December of last year.
CVA Executive Director Dan Caldwell issued the following statement on behalf of the organization:
“President Trump was right when he said during his recent State of the Union address that ‘great nations don’t fight endless wars.’ Unfortunately, if recent reports regarding plans to keep American forces in Syria are true, the United States risks becoming further embroiled in a potentially endless, nation-building operation in Syria. We urge President Trump to trust his original instincts and follow through with the responsible and expedient withdrawal of American troops from Syria that he rightly ordered in December of last year.”

Following President Trump’s December announcement of plans to withdraw troops from Syria, CVA released this statement in support of the move, stating, “keeping our troops in Syria will not guarantee a better outcome in the civil war, and a continued U.S. presence in the country will only distract from more pressing national security priorities.”
Recent polling from the Charles Koch Institute showed that the American public is open to withdrawing from both Syria and Afghanistan, which President Trump has previously supported.
