CVA Urges Manchin to Do Right by West Virginians During Gorsuch Hearing

By Concerned Veterans for America

Arlington, VA – Today begins Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch’s hearing before the U.S. Senate.

Senator Manchin (D-WV) has said that he will not filibuster Gorsuch’s confirmation process, but has not expressed support for the nominee. Manchin is up for re-election in 2018.

Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) Executive Director Mark Lucas issued the following statement:

Members of the Senate must focus on Judge Gorsuch’s qualifications to serve on the bench and avoid political theatre. Gorsuch’s unparalleled experience and principled approach to interpreting the rule of law proves he will respect the Constitution that so many Americans veterans fought and sacrificed to defend. We urge Senator Manchin to do right by West Virginians and help drive a thorough, clean, and expedited confirmation hearing.”

In a recent editorial, the Charleston Gazette-Mail wrote, “Neil Gorsuch has the qualities anyone considered for justice of the highest court should have: a strong understanding and respect for the nation’s founding document, the U.S. Constitution.”

CVA has made over 10,000 calls to West Virginia constituents asking them to contact Senator Manchin and urge him to confirm Gorsuch without delay. CVA also recently launched a targeted web ad and direct mail campaign in support of Gorsuch.

The American Bar Association has given Judge Neil Gorsuch its highest rating, unanimously declaring him “well-qualified.”
