CVA Statement on Former Phoenix VA Director Sharon Helman Pleading Guilty to Felony Charges

By Concerned Veterans for America

Arlington, Va. – Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) Press Secretary John Cooper made the following statement regarding the announcement that former Phoenix VA Director Sharon Helman pleaded guilty to not disclosing more than $50,000 in gifts from a lobbyist in financial filings: “The criminal justice system has finally done what the VA refused to: hold Sharon Helman accountable for her lack of integrity. While fired for impermissibly accepting gifts, that she has avoided any substantial accountability for her actions specifically regarding the wait list scandal is a stain on the VA’s already tarnished image, and today’s news only further highlights the VA’s lack of seriousness in addressing instances of corruption and malfeasance within the department.”
