CVA Opposes Ex-Im Amendment to NDAA
CVA Believes Addition of Amendment Reauthorizing Export-Import Bank to NDAA Could Undermine Critical Bill

Arlington, Va. – In response to the filing of an amendment to the FY2016 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would reauthorize the Export-Import Bank, Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) CEO Pete Hegseth issued the following statement on behalf of CVA:

“CVA has in the past sounded the alarm about attempts by members of Congress to fund or authorize their pet projects through non-defense related amendments to the NDAA – believing that doing so undermines this yearly bill that is so critical to the well-being of our troops in the field. That is why CVA is strongly opposed to adding an amendment to the FY2016 NDAA that would reauthorize the Export-Import Bank – an institution which has no relation to the operation of the Department of Defense. CVA believes that adding this amendment to the NDAA would harm this critical bill – which this year contains important reforms to military compensation and equipment acquisitions – in addition to threatening its ultimate passage.

“More disturbingly, the Export-Import Bank has subsidized foreign institutions and countries that have actively opposed American national security interests – which makes adding its reauthorization to the NDAA even more outrageous.

“With our troops still engaged in combat in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other hotspots around the world, Congress needs to stop using the NDAA as a vehicle to fund their pet projects and reward special interests. The Senate can prove that they are serious about ending the abuse of this important bill by rejecting this dangerous amendment to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank.”
