CVA Names Dan Caldwell as New Executive Director

Arlington, VA – Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) announced today that it will name Dan Caldwell as the new executive director for the organization. Dan will replace Mark Lucas, who has recently accepted the position of Senior Vice President of Grassroots at Americans for Prosperity. Mark will continue to work closely with CVA to advance health care policy for veterans.

Dan joined Concerned Veterans for America in 2013 and has played a major role in the group’s legislative success. Most recently, Dan led CVA’s successful campaign to enact of the VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017, legislation that allows the VA to hold employees accountable and protects the whistleblowers who expose wrongdoing.

CVA Executive Director Dan Caldwell issued the following comment:

“I’m excited about the opportunity to build on the success of Concerned Veterans for America in this new position. I have a tremendous amount of confidence in the power of our grassroots network and believe we are in a better positon than ever to help enact meaningful reforms that help not just our veterans but our nation as a whole. It has been an honor to work with Mark Lucas and I look forward to continuing to partner with him in his new role.”

Former Executive Director of CVA Mark Lucas issued the following comment:

“It has been a privilege to stand with our grassroots activists to advance causes that will improve the lives of our nation’s veterans. I am greatly appreciative of the friendship and trust I have built with Dan Caldwell over the past few years and know that he will do an excellent job leading the organization and fighting for veterans. Dan and I share a vision that veterans should receive the best care possible after returning home, and providing world class health care for veterans will remain one of my top priorities. It’s been an honor to stand with you, the brave 1% of Americans that have served this nation’s military.”

In 2005, Dan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as an infantryman. During Basic Training, Dan was selected for the Marine Corps’ Presidential Support Program, in which he served as a member of the Marine Security Force at Marine Barracks Washington and the Presidential Retreat at Camp David. Upon completion of his tour at Camp David, Dan was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines where he served as an infantry team leader, squad leader, and vehicle commander. Dan deployed to Iraq with 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and conducted operations in Al Anbar and Ninawa provinces.

Prior to joining CVA in 2013, Dan worked for Congressman David Schweikert (R-AZ). Dan originally was a constituent caseworker focused on resolving constituents’ issues with the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense and eventually was promoted to Deputy Chief of Staff. Additionally, in 2012, Dan managed the successful re-election campaign of Congressman Schweikert in one of the most intense incumbent versus incumbent races of the 2012 election cycle.
