Concerned Veterans for America Releases Fixing Veterans Health Care Taskforce Report
CVA Proposes Bold Reforms in Veterans Independence Act

Arlington, Va. – Today, Concerned Veterans for America’s (CVA) Fixing Veterans Health Care Taskforce released its final policy report focusing on reforms to the delivery of veterans’ health care. The reforms, which are collectively entitled the Veterans Independence Act, will be unveiled and discussed at CVA’s Fixing Veterans Health Care summit today in Washington, D.C. The full report can be viewed here.

The Veterans Independence Act would make four key reforms to the delivery of veterans health care:

1. Separate the VHA’s payor and provider functions and convert the current VHA integrated health care system into a government-charted nonprofit corporation.
2. Create a premium-support private insurance option for eligible veterans who want to access care in the private sector.
3. Force the VHA to provide more detailed data on their medical costs to Congress and the public.
4. Reorient the veterans’ health care system back towards a focus on service-connected disabled veterans.

The summit, beginning at 8:30 am EST (click here to view live stream), will be headlined by senior lawmakers, health policy experts and veterans advocates, including taskforce co-chairs Dr. Bill Frist (R-TN), former U.S. Senate Majority Leader, Rep. Jim Marshall (D-GA), former Congressman, Army Ranger, Dr. Mike Kussman, former Under Secretary for Health for the Department of Veterans Affairs, and Avik Roy, health care scholar at the Manhattan Institute.

Speakers also include:

o Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)
o Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)
o Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-GA)
o Rep. Jeff Miller (R-FL), Chairman, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs
