Concerned Veterans for America Calls out Secretary McDonald for Wait Time Comments

By Concerned Veterans for America

Arlington, Va.  Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) held a media call today to raise awareness of VA Secretary Robert McDonald’s comments regarding VA wait times and how they indicate larger problems with both the leadership and structure of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Secretary McDonald Monday compared veterans’ wait times for appointments to waiting in line for rides at Disney theme parks, drawing ire from lawmakers, veterans’ groups and Americans across the country.

Concerned Veterans for America released a statement condemning his remarks, and on today’s call, CVA Vice President for Political and Legislative Action Dan Caldwell discussed how his comments reflect a broader problem at the VA:

“The biggest problem is the VA’s toxic culture—it does not encourage integrity, does not encourage a culture where there’s a collaborative approach to solving problems and being transparent with the public, the press or Congress. The next VA secretary should be somebody who really goes in there and is not afraid to step up to bureaucracy.”
