CVA Applauds HASC for Advancing Military Commission’s Retirement Recommendations
Chairman Thornberry’s Leadership Brings Important Reforms to 2016 NDAA
Arlington, Va. – With an overwhelming bipartisan vote, the House Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee today passed proposals, in alignment with the Military Compensation and Retirement Modernization Commission’s recommendations, to overhaul the current military retirement system as part of the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). In response to the committee’s proposals, Pete Hegseth, CEO of Concerned Veterans for America (CVA), issued the following statement:
“Concerned Veterans for America supports the bipartisan recommendations proposed by Chairman Thornberry and the House Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee to reform the outdated military retirement system to better meet the needs of America’s troops. We applaud the proposal’s expansion of retirement benefits to include more service members and give retirees more retirement flexibility, while also providing the option for personnel currently serving to be grandfathered into the existing system. We feel that these proposals will preserve the viability of the All-Volunteer Force—and ensure that we keep America’s military the most powerful in the world.
“CVA would like to take this opportunity to praise members of both parties for recognizing that this is an important issue that needs to be addressed. We look forward to this proposal being incorporated into the ‘chairman’s mark’ and the subsequent bipartisan support on the floor of the House of Representatives. Additionally, while we understand that both the House and Senate Armed Service Committees need more time to examine the health care and commissary reforms, we hope that these will be implemented through next year’s NDAA.”
