This week on the Hill – Veterans’ choice, VA efficiency and NDAA

Congress just returned from recess yesterday to a full plate of hearings, debates, and discussions. With just a few legislative weeks until the August recess, there is much to get done in both the House and Senate, specifically on the budget. This is a busy week for the House and Senate’s Veterans Affairs Committees as well; both are holding hearings on a variety of issues. Here’s a look at this week.

Tuesday

The Senate VA Committee will hold a hearing on pending legislation Tuesday afternoon covering a variety of bills including those on VA administration and health care choice options. Meanwhile, the House Rules Committee will begin discussing the National Defense Authorization Act of 2018, which will go into Wednesday.

Wednesday

The House VA Committee will meet Wednesday to discuss the VA’s capital asset needs. Wednesday afternoon the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies will markup the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2018. The House Rules Committee will continue discussion on the 2018 NDAA before debate on the NDAA starts.

Thursday

The House VA Committee will hold another hearing Thursday to examine productivity and efficiency at the VA. The House will also continue its debate on NDAA. That debate is scheduled to continue into Friday.
