VETERANS GROUP LAUNCHES VA ACCOUNTABILITY PROJECT New website holds VA leadership responsible for department’s dysfunction
‘No more excuses’
Arlington, VA—In an effort to bring greater attention and focus to underserved veterans, Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) launched the VA Accountability Project on Tuesday, an ambitious project to bring long-overdue accountability to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Our larger initiative—VA Accountability Project—provides concrete ways Americans can understand the problem, learn about proposed solutions and show their support for reform legislation aimed at improving service and performance for veterans at VA. The site was launched in response to the growing number of reports of poor service and dysfunctional performance at the VA, the second largest federal department. With long backlogs for benefits claims and appeals, and troubling reports of veterans dying from poor VA health care, CVA CEO Pete Hegseth said that the time is now to take action and demand accountability from VA leaders. “The VA has a long and unsettling record of underserving, overburdening and flat-out ignoring our veterans and their families,” Hegseth said. “We’re here to say, ‘No more excuses.’ It’s time for this record of poor performance to end—which means holding the department’s leadership accountable. We encourage all veterans and their supporters to visit the site and learn how they can be part of the solution to the troubling problem of VA dysfunction.” CVA’s VA Accountability Project is the latest in a growing movement among veterans’ advocates to hold the VA’s leadership to account for the department’s performance failures. Last week, Rep. Jeff Miller and Sen. Marco Rubio introduced the VA Management Accountability Act of 2014, sensible reform legislation that empowers the VA Secretary to fire underperforming managers. CVA, along with other veterans’ advocacy groups, supports the Miller-Rubio bill.
