Concerned Veterans for America: Secretary McDonald’s Comments Highlight How VA is Getting Worse

By Concerned Veterans for America

Arlington, Va. Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) Vice President for Political and Legislative Action Dan Caldwell released the following statement highlighting how VA Secretary Robert McDonald’s comments this week comparing VA wait times to waiting in line at Disney theme parks serve to emphasize how wait times at the VA only continue to get worse:

“Secretary McDonald’s comments this week comparing VA wait times to lines at Disney theme parks were appalling, but they were not just an isolated gaffe. Rather, McDonald’s comments were representative of the toxic culture at the VA and the lack of seriousness its leaders have toward fixing the systemic problems plaguing the department. Things at the VA are only getting worse, as headline after headline of the VA’s failure to deliver timely care to veterans or hold unethical and incompetent employees accountable makes clear.

Almost 500,000 veterans are now waiting a month or more care, and more than 30,000 are waiting more than four months. Many veterans are waiting at least three weeks to be seen, or as many as 10. Revelations of wait time manipulation continue to surface. There is no room for debate: the VA is broken, and needs system-wide reform. As we pause to remember our fallen heroes this Memorial Day, let us also not forget those who have lost their lives waiting for the care we as a nation have promised them, and commit to doing the hard work necessary to ensure that no more veterans are forced to sacrifice even more than they already have.”
